Product Description

This Christmas carol has had a number of different versions, starting out in the 18th Century as a French carol, "Quelle Est Cette Odeur Agreable?". It has been translated into English as "What Is This Fragrance?" Other lyrics were written for the same tune, such as "Thou Who Wast Rich Beyond All Splendor" by Frank Houghton in 1934, based on 2 Corinthians 8:9:
"For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that you through His poverty might become rich."
In 1997, Houghton's wife Dorothy modernized his lyrics as "Lord, You Were Rich Beyond All Splendor" for the Haven of Rest Quartet to record with the title "For Love's Sake". It has also been recorded by Marilyn Baker in the UK and Keith & Kristyn Getty in the UK & Ireland. This is a flexible band/choral arrangement which, in its demo configuration here, is presented by a keyboard and a "double quartet" of wind instruments with a string bass.
The performance time is approximately 3:30.
