This little choral prayer has a text from St. Anselm of Canterbury (ca. 1330), slightly revised by me to make it more inclusive. Illuminate and inspire, we beseech thee, all thinkers, writers, artists and crafters. And I love that it allows us to rejoice in beauty. I found this text on the wall of a side chapel in Canterbury Cathedral in 1983 and set it originally in 1984 as a memorial to one of my uncles, my fathers brother, who was a skilled landscape artist. I later revised it as one of the movements of my Requiem, composed in 1994 (revised 95).
