The name of the pier is The Rod and Reel. People are constanly fishing, relaxing, or enjoying the awesome view of the Sunshine Skyway Bridge that can be admired across the bay. The old historical Rod and Reel Pier has seen many tropical storms and hurricanes. Yes, the pier has been damaged over the years, but it has always been repaired and lives on. This is the setting of The Old Pier.

The relaxed mood of this piece is conveyed through a flowing left-hand pattern and an easy-going right-hand melody that uses the interval of a sixth. Amidst the gentle flow are some dramatic 32nd note passages that again give way to the calming and peaceful theme. The Old Pier is in the key of F major and contains some accidentals adding a gorgeous harmonic variation.
