Product Description

Thomas Hardy was renowned for his ability to create a dark and brooding atmosphere and this is certainly true in this poem. It typified the mood of people at the end of the 19th Century and we can all have those dispirited times like a dreary Winter's day. However, the thrush and its song personifies hope. Whether our protagonist's outlook is changed by this experience is not so clear. I think it was, at least from knowing hope is expressed by some in a world which often can look bleak.
