Product Description

MANX FOLK TUNES FOR DOUBLE BASS with HARP or PIANOFORTE ACCOMPANIMENT.  Mourning for a Prince is a mixolydian tune.  I begin with a skeletal version of the melody, followed by the complete tune, then transpose it down a minor 3rd. The beautiful Lullaby is in the aeolian mode. Hunt the Wren is a surprising, lively, traditional event on St Stephen's Day (26th December) when villagers dance and sing around the town hoping for gifts. This tune is dorian. The Goodnight Song (Arrane Oie Vie) uses the aeolian mode. It was traditionally sung after a Christmas Eve event in the church, after more formal proceedings and after the singing of many gloomy vaguely religious songs there and a visit to the pub. Beautiful traditional tunes.
