The initial idea for this song came from a point in a sermon (in June of 2020) by a pastor at my church (who shall remain nameless to protect the guilty ߘ The point was that we cant get to heaven by following the Law. Only the Gospel can do that. Therefore, the song is a Gospel song, even though the word gospel never appears in it.

The song opens with the statement that the Law cant save your soul. It also points out that the Law cant do miracles (like physically healing the body).

The song also addresses what the Law CAN do. The song also alludes to a game (croquet) and a food (cinnamon toast) to demonstrate that neither a Rule book nor a Recipe Book can get us to heaven. These allusions are a bit humorous and unexpected and therefore fit well in the genre of the Barbershop Quartet style.)
