He will speak peace is a church anthem for SATB (divisi), mezzo-soprano or treble solo, and organ. It is a setting of two verses from Psalm 85, and it was written and performed for the 350th anniversary of the founding of Lion Walk United Reformed Church, Colchester, and is dedicated to the memory of the composer's teacher Herbert Howells, ending with a characteristic Howells cadence. The expressive and calm setting also incorporates Song 1 by Orlando Gibbons (Eternal Ruler of the ceaseless round) mainly in the organ part, with the choir taking up and developing the hymn-tune in the final bars, to the words Mercy and truth are met together, righteousness and peace have kissed each other.
