John Attey, a gentleman and practitioner of music, composed part-songs during the first quarter of the 17th century - the end of the English madrigalian period. Sweet was the Song appears in his First Book of Ayres published in 1622.  It is a gentle song of the Nativity, sung as a lullaby to the new born Child.  This setting of the original lute song is arranged for 4-part SATB ensemble and keyboard/piano.  Performance time: 1:45+-
