William Butler Yeats ends his short story The Adoration of the Magi with the narrator describing a centuries old Gaelic prayer" when I pray against the demons I repeat a prayer which was made I know not how many centuries ago to help some poor Gaelic man or woman who had suffered with a suffering like mine.

The ancient prayer is presented for female voices and solo violin followed by The Magi introducing piano and choir. Yeats Magi appear and disappear in modern times, with their ancient faces like rain-beaten stones. They continue to search and wait for Christs second coming with their eyes still fixed, hoping, hoping. The Magi will remain the unsatisfied ones until they find once more, the uncontrollable mystery on the bestial floor.
