"Nothing Compares 2 U" is a song written and composed in 1985 by Prince for his side project the Family; the song appeared on their debut album, The Family. Several years later, Irish singer-songwriter Sinéad O'Connor recorded a version of the song for her second studio album, I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got (1990). It was released as the album's second single and became a worldwide hit, along with a now classic music video, mostly consisting of long, lingering close-up shots of O'Connor's face, with real tears being shed towards the end. The song has been covered by many artists over the years, including Aretha Franklin and Chris Cornell. This arrangement retains the original key of F major and includes several phrases featuring cor anglais and iconic lines for trumpet.
