However, the nomination was withdrawn after the Academy discovered that the "Love Theme" was a rewritten version of Rota's music from the 1958 film Fortunella. Nonetheless, the melancholy waltz tune went on to become a hit song, "Speak Softly Love" with lyrics by Larry Kusik.
