This lullaby theme for the film's young protagonist, Carol Anne, has a simple hymn-like quality representing the blissful suburban life at the beginning of the story (a version with lyrics exists called 'Bless This House' sung by a children's choir). The film has continued to receive recognition 40 years after its release: it was selected by The New York Times as one of The Best 1000 Movies Ever Made. It also received recognition from the American Film Institute, with a number 84 ranking on AFI's 100 Years...100 Thrills list; "They're here" was named the 69th-greatest movie quote on AFI's 100 Years...100 Movie Quotes.
