In the Giant Mountains. The path is leading upwards, the misty air is damp and cool. Distant, in the twilight of the dense conifer trees, a shadow seems to move. Could this be the legendary mountain spirit Rübezahl, roaming the forest with his wooden staff, who is now friend, then foe to the wanderers passing his realm? The way is rising further, a light wind is starting to breeze.

In a clearing the wind is parting the foggy mist. A dark, slender figure ascends, giant-like with long, risen arms. The shocked traveler is trembling with fear, his face is turning pale. Suddenly a gust of wind: mist and figure are gone !

Has it all been just an illusion, after all?
