Donizetti: l’amor funesto; pno, voice, hn
Review by Ben R. on 23 Oct 2024 review stating Die With A Smile - Piano/Vocal/Guitar
Glad to have this in any form, but the horn part is disappointing in that it’s written in F with two sharps rather than simply horn in G, and an octave down from where it’s usually played. Fischer-Dieskau sings it in sounding F, and Cilirillo in E - modern pitch at least. Presumably the piano part can simply be transposed ad lib, and the horn crook changed accordingly. Preferable then simply to have the tonic as C. Bars 35 to 45 are very different to the usual arrangement, bars 39 to 45 being silent rather than sounding as the two recordings I mention, Fischer-Dieskau and Lucia Cirillo. Again, the final three bars crotchets and min8ms rather than arpeggios.
