When Paul McCartney wrote the song, he was inspired by the call of a blackbird in India, as well as racial tensions in the US: "I remembered this whole idea of "you were only waiting for this moment to arise" was about, you know, the black people's struggle in the southern states, and I was using the symbolism of a blackbird."

The Beatles recorded "Blackbird" for their 1968 self-titled double album (which became known as "the White Album"), considered one of the greatest albums of all time. 

"Blackbird" is among the Beatles' most beautiful ballads, and has become one of their most-streamed songs on Spotify.
