Product Description

Steel drum band, advanced intermediate level. Movie music, reggae. Key of C.

Bob Dyan's classic "Quinn The Eskimo" has been performed by many various groups, including Manfred Mann, The Hollies, Ian & Sylvia, Grateful Dead, Phish, and even The Beatles during their Let It Be sessions.

"Quinn The Eskimo" was adapted as "The Mighty Quinn" to be an integral part of the 1989 motion picture The Mighty Quinn starring Denzel Washington and Sheryl Lee Ralph. It is sung in the movie by Sheryl Lee Ralph, Cedella Marley, and Sharon Marley Prendergast, and later in the movie by Maria McDonald.

This is an arrangement of "The Mighty Quinn" from the 1989 film of the same name. Playing level is advanced intermediate. It begins at a moderate pace with swing eighth notes and ends at a faster pace with straight eighth notes, making the transition at the instrumental toasting section, one bar before letter F. In the scrolling score sample, the tempo is 130 bpm for the swing section and 152 bpm for the straight eighths section.

Rhythmic elements include: Swing rhythm switches to straight eighths along with change in tempo; quarter-note triplets; instrumental toasting section; accents on off-beats; interlocking syncopation.

Instrument ranges:

Lead         E4 - C6
Doubles    G3 - E5
Cello        C3 - G4
Six Bass    C2 - D3

Playing time is about 4:05 at swing = 130 bpm and straight eighths = 152 bpm.
