Dennis was a late 19th Century/early 20th Century American hymnist. He was from Missouri. Rev. Oatman was a 19th Century American pastor and hymnist. He was born in New Jersey into a musically inclined family. Sections A and C are the verse. Section B and D are the chorus. A modulatuon to a new key occurs between B and C with the aid of a French augmented sixth chord. Once in the new key, a descant is added by yours truly. Towrads the end, there is a deceptive cadence.
