The Pines was composed on mandolin on an early winter day. The original version is for solo mandolin with optional string quartet. This version incorporates a lot of tremolo or singing mandolin throughout. It is helpful to practice adjusting the speed of your tremolo for different tempos and time signatures. The music at the end of each half of this work is meant to evoke a choir and bells which give it a more wintery feeling. This version was arranged for piano/harp with mandolin and would work well in a winter holiday set.
