Product Description

Three brief piano pieces written by Puccini, remarkable as the rest of his compositional output was almost exclusively operatic. The most famous of the three, the short waltz written in 1894, went on to become the basis for the aria "Quando m'en vo'" or "Musetta's Waltz" from La Bohème. The tango, possibly inspired by one of Puccini's trips to the US, displays jazz-influenced harmonies and some experimentation with polytonality. The album leaf, written near the end of Puccini's life, is a short, melodically mercurial work, with references to both jazz and operatic writing.
