The Tocata Criolla is a work based on Panamanian rhythms, particularly the atravesao, a compound pattern used in the tamborito and cumbia traditions in the central provinces. The piece involves energetic gestures and agressive playing juxtaposed with more lyrical material, but with a constant energetic drive.
