Great for encores!
Unison hands setup up the the spark with bits of counterpoint and harmony dropping in to push the flame higher until it takes off in a fury of flame. Zooming out to a milder, wider perspective (think distant grass fire) the music next recedes to a comforting (if still hotly busy) fireplace. But before complacency set ins, the real fireworks start with a virtuosic but very playable conclusion ending in a furious burst.
Composers comments:Fire is part of the Elements Suite and recording created during a visit to the Pacific Northwest, where the natural world exhibits an unusual intensity and the elements are quite prominently display.
With this music I hope to capture the contrasts between the four elements as well as the dual natures within each of them. Water, for example, is both a source of life and potentially dangerous. Air is both breath and wind. Fire comforts or burns. Only Earth seemed to me continuous and dependable.
