Obs.: This piece is the second of six songs for voice and piano in Mendelssohn's 6 Gesänge, Op. 34. This song is a setting of the poem Auf Flügeln des Gesanges by the German Romantic poet Heinrich Heine (1797-1856). This poem was first published in his Buch der Lieder in 1827. Mendelssohn's Au Flügeln des Gesanges was originally composed for voice and piano in the key of A flat Major.
This score is an arrangement for violin and piano and is set in the key of D Major, with key change to A-flat Major.
