Obs.: This beautiful piece is the second of six songs for voice and piano in Mendelssohn's 6 Gesänge, Op. 34. This song is a setting of the poem Auf Flügeln des Gesanges by the German Romantic poet Heinrich Heine (1797-1856).
This poem was first published in his Buch der Lieder in 1827.
