Product Description

Here are six pieces from Carlo Calvi's Intavolatura di chitarra, e chitarriglia (1646), transcribed for the ukulele: 1. Aria di Fiorenza, 2. Alemana, 3. Sua Corrente, 4. Tordiglione. 5. Rugiero, 6. Canario. They can be played separately, or as a suite. Baroque guitar music transcribes well to the ukulele because both instruments have a similar re-entrant tuning. This facilitates strumming and "campanella", an effect created when tones ring against each other, bar 8 of the Alemana being a good example. Baroque guitar composers made use of these effects, and they can be recreated on the ukulele, despite its limited compass. The audio sample is Canario.
