The lyrics by Unitarian minister, Edmund Sears, were written in 1849 in Massachusetts. In 1850 American composer of hymns, Richard Storrs Willis set those lyrics to music. This arrangement contains 4 verses separated by an interlude. This allows the performers to stop at the end of each verse. The melody is divided evenly between parts. Dynamics are clearly marked.
