This tranquil Christmas hymn is arranged as a piano solo. Although chordal in some spots, it takes on more of a contrapuntal character and, as a result, may be used as an instructional piece. A short transition invites a meter change (from 6/8 to 4/4) where the Left Hand states phrases of Hark! The Herald Angels Sing while the Right Hand continues with It Came Upon the Midnight Clear (in 4/4). Graded as Upper Intermediate because of the independence of the hands, occasions when the left hand carries the melody, and a few blues/jazz harmonies in the final section. The first two parts are in the key of Bb Major; the return of 6/8 in the final section is accompanied by a key change to C Major. (Tempo markings are suggested, but need not be adhered to by the performer). Appropriate for any Christmas prelude, worship, concert, recital, or holiday setting. Perf. Time: Approx. 3:46.
