Product Description

Baritone with Pianoforte. His writings selected and edited. Extracts from a letter Beethoven wrote to his friend Carl Amenda, in 1799, in which he first confessed about the loss of his hearing, and from the Heiligenstadt Testament, a letter Beethoven wrote to his brothers in 1802. In the latter 1100-word document he writes of frustration with his growing hearing problem, at the same time attributing his gradual withdrawal from society to this illness. In the letter he also plays with the idea of suicide. He never posted it or showed it to anyone. Beethoven was quoted as saying the opening motif of his Fifth Symphony "is the sound of Fate knocking at the door. I felt it appropriate to quote this in my piece. Intermediate. 5 minutes.
