Introductory note: The alto clarinet is one of the most unfairly maligned woodwind instruments. Frequently derided and ignored, it has suffered decades of unjust ridicule and several times even the notion that it should be made completely extinct has been suggested. Thankfully, many clarinettists and composers feel differently; the alto clarinet is a beautiful instrument full of expression with a great variety of tone. The four movements of Episodes showcase the alto clarinets potential as a solo voice and to demonstrate that it can and should have a place on the concert stage. Each movement of Episodes may be performed separately.
