We don't know why Beethoven named this the Eyeglasses duo. He himself played the viola and his good friend, Baron Nikolaus Zmeskall, played the cello so its very likely that he intended the for them to play this together. This was originally written for viola and cello, and this is an arrangement for violin and viola.
