Product Description

From the Music of Black Composer with Charles Decker Music Press is this brass choir arrangement of the first movement "Longing" from William Grant Still's "Afro-American Symphony". Still's Afro-American Symphony incorporated African-American folk influences and as part of the early 20th Century Harlem Renaissance in New York City, the work was enthusiastically received in the USA and overseas. This arrangement for four B-flat trumpets, four horns, 3 trombones, euphonium and tuba of Still's first movement "Longing" will enliven concerts with colorful rhythms reminiscent of Gershwin and Blues. Pair this with the third movement "Humor" of Still's "Afro-American Symphony" arranged for similar brass choir with Charles Decker Music Press at Sheet Music Plus.

Deckers arrangement of Longing from William Grant Stills Afro-American Symphony is so artfully arranged for brass, that one concert goer thought it originally composed for brass ensemble. While this arrangement speaks to performers and audiences, it also celebrates the contributions of a truly great Black American composer. Mark Kellogg, Eastman Professor of Trombone, Eastman Brass Guild Conductor

The Music of Black Composers Series is a welcome and timely addition to the brass repertoire. Highly recommended! Wesley Nance, Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, Eastman School of Music

I was so pleased to see the great works arranged for brass ensemble by Charles Decker Music Press especially the Music of Black Composers Series. It was rewarding to perform several of these with Summit Brass and students attending the Rafael Mendez Brass institute. You provide the brass world with some real gems. Joseph Parisi, Director Summit Brass, Fountain City Brass Band, University of Missouri Kansas City Conservatory Wind Ensemble
