Product Description
This is the third movement of my octatonic string quartet.
The mp3 of all 4 movements together is also available.
In this movement the viola plays in Dorian mode
(except for the very last note, where it reverts to the octatonic mode of the other three instruments, resulting in a fine resolution).
The result is a fascinating polymodal structure and creates harmonies of great mystery.
It is, however, a tonal piece because it has an obvious tonal centre, which is the first note that the viola plays.
It was performed by the Camerata quartet in Manchester, UK, in 1997.
