Product Description

'Cooleys' is a lively Irish reel that's great fun to play. It's well-known and loved and is played across the world in pubs, on stage and at Irish music sessions. It is a great reel for beginners and experts alike.

History: The origins of this tune are greatly disputed, with various stories in circulation. Cooleys is often associated with Joe Cooley, a button accordion player from County Galway. One of the most popular explanations of the origins of this tune is from Joes brother, Séamus. According to him, the two brothers heard the tune in County Clare being played on a battered old concertina. Later that night, the two brothers recreated the tune tune as best they could, staying up through the night working and worrying the remembered fragments until finally the reel took shape. According to Séamus, Joe composed the first section, whilst he composed the second part himself.
