Product Description

The Seasons Preludes is a collection of twenty organ solos written September 2021 - June 2022 and consists of 5 original compositions for each season of the year. Even though their chronological order begins with autumn, I listed the order as spring, summer, autumn, and winter. Each of the songs represents various emotions I felt in each of these seasons as I was writing. Some are bold while some are very meditative, some happy and vibrant while some are more solemn and introspective, but all representing honest feelings of the times written. Each of the separate collections are listed exactly as previously published and should be easy to locate with the contents listed on the cover page of each season in the order listed beginning with spring listed at the top of each page. There are also separate numbers at the bottom which numerates the complete work. The YT video is of Spring Prelude No. 5 while the MP3 is of Spring Prelude No. 2. Every piece is available individually and each separate season set is available as well. I would like to give a special thanks to Carson Cooman, who is the Composer in Residence at the Harvard University Memorial Church and to whom this book is dedicated. When I began to write the autumn set in September of 2021, Carson encouraged me to consider writing a set for all the seasons. It seemed like a monumental task at the time, but I made the decision to write each suite as the corresponding season approached. However, it was hard starting each collection, yet all the sets were written quickly once begun. It has been surprising for me to see how many organists around the world have performed these organ compositions as well as others written in the last few years and an honor for which I am very grateful. Thanks also to my beautiful wife, Babra, for her encouragement and support in my many writing endeavors. James Michael Stevens is a prolific composer residing in Nashville, TN and is the Chairman of the Music Department at Welch College.
