The composer's work was influenced by both his classical training in the traditions of Moscow Conservatoire and his fascination with the rhythm and beat of jazz and popular music. As a player and composer he gained a considerable reputation in his home country, Russia. After emigrating to the UK he played with groups such as Imagination and Nina Hagen, as well as giving numerous solo recitals and appearances at international festivals. He was also a much in demand music director and member of the British Academy of Song Writers and Composers Association.
