Product Description

The two pieces, Partante pour La Syrie and Hirondelle are arrangements for violin and piano composed by Hortense de Beauharnais who was Emperor Napoléon's step daughter. She married the Emperor's brother, Louis Napoléon. Their son was Napoléon III who, when he was made emperor made Partante pour La Syrie, France's national hymn before it was later replaced by the Marseillaise. The Partante pour La Syrie, Hortense's most popular work, was quoted by Camille Saint-Saens in 'Fossils' in his Carnival of the Animals. Hirondelle (Romance) is a beautiful slow sustained piece. Both pieces are suitable for players of early intermediate standard.
