Born in 2008, Jonathan Platz is a young self-taught composer who has won awards at the Gold Coast QMTA Composers Competition, ASME Queensland Young Composers' competition, and the Innisfail Young Performers Competition. Carousel Quartet in G Major won three awards, including first place, at the 2019 Gold Coast QMTA Composers Competition. This clarinet quartet was performed at the local high schools Band Spectacular and is written to capture the excitement of being at the carnival, with the rise and fall of the notes roughly reflecting that of a carousel. The composition would best suit early intermediate and above students.
