This piece is structured as a series of variations on a theme. After an introductory section, the theme is presented for the first time on page 4 in F major. The variations follow, becoming progressively freer in form, until the climax is reached on pages 13-14 at the end of the Valse section. There follows one final restatement of the theme in F# major, involving elaborate passagework juxtaposed over an arpeggiated accompaniment. A lively coda then draws the piece to a close.
