Originally written for 4 handed piano for the 2 children of his close friend, Ravel's Mother Goose suite proved popular and was soon orchestrated. This string orchestra arrangement retains the texture of the orchestration, as well as retaining the high solo parts in the principal violin and viola parts. The goal was to remain as faithful as possible to the original orchestral version.
