2018 Chamber Music Contest Entry
Flute, Clarinet, Violin, Cello and Piano
duration: 6min 45sec
This is a concert piece appropriate for modern chamber music concerts. The piece is in a Neo-Romantic and slightly modern style, although it only includes a few contemporary playing techniques.
The title mystery derives from the dialogue between two opposing forces, the first, presented in the opening theme, is a beautiful locked box containing hidden gems of knowledge, while the second, heard in the development section, is an aggressive passionate voice seeking the answers to the sacred question: what is the meaning of life? These two voices go back and forth in a type of struggle before finally, at the end, there is a kind of opening or revelation, where the box is partially opened, perhaps to reveal another box inside containing a deeper layer of meaning.
