Submitted for 2015 Areon Flutes International Chamber Music Composition Competition. Where the Mountain Casts Its Shadow is a piece for clarinet choir, meant to capture the fervor and intensity of Eastern European brass bands. The piece functions in a way that a melody or idea is presented by one player, and then answered or augmented by the ensemble. The work is meant to drive forward with a sense of foreboding and rising tension, anchored by an Oom-pah bassline, coupled with a fast and dancing main theme.
