Product Description
City of Angels is a traditional woodwind quintet comprised of a bassoon, French horn (which is a brass-woodwind crossover instrument), clarinet, flute, and oboe. The piece was inspired by a road trip to LA during spring break of 2019, which later turned into a dystopian reality of traffic noise, smog, structural vandalism, and obvious wealth inequality. My expectations were built on 1960s and 70s sitcom shows like "The Beverly Hillbillies" and "The Brady Bunch." It sure seemed like a gorgeous place to live, so this is how I begin the quintet, telling the story of the citys development throughout time. Abundant orange groves in tall valleys swooping towards the Pacific ocean, slowly adding businesses and iconic features, followed by the decay. At the end of the piece, the first few hopeful melodies are remembered, but theyre somewhat distant and cold. The PDF download includes the score followed by each individual part.
