The famous Christmas hymn is now is the form of String Quintet. It can also be played on String Orchestra with bar 1-8 be played only with Viola, Cello and Double Bass solo, and tutti on bar 9 onwards.
It starts out with only Viola, Cello and Double Bass, with Double Bass in its high register, then in the second repeat there are only Violin 1, 2 and Viola, and the rest starts to join one by one. The third repeat of the hymn is a tutti of all the strings.
*In this piece, Cello and Double Bass (especially Double Bass) need to use its high register in some parts and will be a challenge for the players.
