Product Description
I. Da Dee gets its title onomatopoeically from the nursery rhyme-like quality of its opening measures. It is a playground taunt, a nursery rhyme - the "Millennial Whoop" in augmentation? The movement is in sonata form.
II. Waiting for Sunrise emerged from a snippet of melody originally conceived for a solo bassoon piece. (It may show up in my Bassoon Sonata, in another form. I like to reuse and recycle). The way the movement unfolds was inspired perhaps by the grotto scene from Ravels Daphnis and Chloe.
III. Clown Car
The movement opens with a "Surprise!" gesture - a sort of musical clowning around. The second theme is a mambo bass line accompanying a soaring and hopeful horn line. There is some "blues" too, before a contemplative coda brings all to a reassuring, if slightly melancholic, close.
