Product Description

Josef Hellmesberger jr. (1855 - 1907) shares not only the name with his father. Both were famous musicians and members of the Vienna Philharmonic as violonists, the son also as conductor with a preceding carreer as military bandmaster. He was also a highly talented composer. The "Valse espagnole" is an intermezzo from his ballet "The Pearl of Iberia", which was premiered in 1902 at the Vienna Court Opera. This transcription was commissioned by Wind Philharmonic Mozarteum Salzburg and first performed conducted by Hansjoerg Angerer at their 2014 New Year's Concert on January 6th in Salzburg, Austria. A live recording of this piece is included on the CD "Eine musikalische Reise" UMR65, Barcode 9120007612141 available at https://naxosdirekt.de/items/eine-musikalische-reise-557962 .
