I wrote the poem about a dead bird that I found on a brick window ledge at the coffee shop I was working at. I remember it was a rather cold day, so I imagined that it was attracted by the lights and heat of the shop radiating off the glass. I've always wondered about city animals, the type of environment they are born in and grow up in. These man-made obstacles, windows, cars, etc. are always a part of their living environment, and yet things like this happen.
