'The Maid Behind the Bar' is a lively Irish jig that's great fun to play. It's well-known and loved and is played across the world in pubs, on stage and at Irish music sessions. It is a great jig for beginners and experts alike.

History: The Maid Behind the Bar is one of the most popular Irish tunes in modern sessions. The Maid Behind the Bar first appeared in print under the name Judys Reel in Ryans Mammoth Collection published in 1882 in Boston. The tune also appeared as The Green Mountains in ONeills Music of Ireland (1903). The Maid Behind the Bar was a favourite dance tune in the US after it was brought over from Ireland by refugees from The Great Irish Famine. Piper Tom Ennis and Sligo fiddler James Morrison popularised the tune when they recorded it in 1922.
