Product Description

Glorificamus Deum is a setting of Psalm 23. This setting works well in both a church service and a concert setting. It takes the very traditional words of the psalm, and spins them with a fresh new approach. The music takes you on a journey from a quiet beginning, into a jazzy-pop expression of wonder as the words joyfully proclaim that "goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life...". An added refrain of Glorificamus Deum adds an accent of exuberance throughout the piece.

This piece of music is not difficult and is accessible to most choirs. Mostly sung in unison, it goes into two parts briefly, but the two parts are canonic and thus, easy to master. The piece is musically interesting for the conductor of a youth ensemble. The range is just over an octave and has young people singing in their head voices. There are opportunities for controlled expressive singing, and also opportunities for more exuberant "let-it-out" singing. The piece goes back and forth between the major and minor modes. It has one particularly challenging interval with a descending major 7th. As well, there is a large dynamic range and some excellent opportunities for rubato and watching the conductor carefully in the softer, more expressive sections.

This piece is fun, melodic, and will be a favorite with every chorister, the instant it is learned.
