"Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep" is a famous prayer all over the christian world; in Finland the prayer was translated in 1860, and set to a song "Levolle lasken luojani" by Sofie Lithenius in 1895. In the Finnish official hymnal it is nowadays known as the hymn number 563, with the title "Ilta on tullut, Luojani".

This arrangement reflects the original Finnish melody's minor mood, and has some chromaticism and a couple of pedal points to sustain the chromatic tensions in the arrangement. For a deepened sense of the melancholy mood sordinos can be used on all strings. Melody is carried by violin 1.
