Once, I Lived on Mountains is described as a catharsis. Inspired by emotions stemming from the composer
having had his identity stolen and his life torn apart in the fall of 2017 to the winter of 2018, this piece is
a lament for the happiness, stability and security he once had in his life, but it is interrupted periodically by
outbursts of the inner anxiety and outrage. The piece as a whole portrays the contrasting emotions when your
life has been torn apart. You miss the calm and stability, you miss living without fear, but at the same time, you
have disjointed emotional outbursts with feelings of anger and hate. In the end, the emotions are just too much.
They are strong and drain a lot of your energy and you just want to lay back and let yourself disappear into
nothingness. So it is with Once, I Lived on Mountains - from lament, to illogical, disjointed, and often
misplaced anger, to exhaustion and disappearance.
