Product Description
Opera in 3 acts for 12 singers, choir and orchestra, in English, on a libretto by Gene Tyburn adapted after Shakespeare's tragedy. Neo-Romantic style, with some colorful, Impressionist harmonies and expressive vocal lines, mostly gloomy and brooding, but also with ironic and dramatic moments.
Arguably the greatest drama in the English language is treated here in music with care to its tragic situations, much closer to Wagner's and Debussy's musical discourse (leit-motives technique included) than to Ambroise Thomas' lighter operatic version in French. Each act is divided in 3 scenes made up of recitatives and arias or ensembles, to be performed without pauses within the scenes.
Appropriate for professional singers and ensembles. Total duration 2 hours. The mp3 audio clip is the Overture. Performing Rights Organization: SOCAN.
